Holiday Projects Are Here: Halloween, Christmas & Lots of New Pieces

If you’ve been into the studio recently, you may have noticed that the seasons seem to arrive a little early around here.

Our Halloween pottery has actually been on the shelves since July, and our Christmas collection made its way out during the first week of September.

There’s a reason for that.

When you’re making something by hand, especially something you want to use as part of your holiday decorating, it’s nice to have time. Time to find the piece you really love, decide how you want to paint it, enjoy making it without feeling rushed, and then give us time to glaze and fire it before you need it at home.

So yes, you may see pumpkins while it’s still technically summer. We’re okay with that.

Halloween Might Be My Favorite Pottery Season

Halloween pieces are just fun.

You can go cute, creepy, traditional, completely ridiculous, or somehow all four at the same time.

This year we have lots of new pieces mixed in with some of our favorite Halloween styles. There are light-ups, pumpkins, jack-o’-lanterns, spooky animals, mugs and pieces that could be painted anywhere from sweet to seriously weird.

And honestly, some of the pieces don’t even need to be painted in traditional Halloween colors. A pumpkin doesn’t have to be orange. A witch hat doesn’t have to be black. That’s half the fun of pottery painting.

One of my favorite things is seeing the exact same piece painted completely differently by different people.

And Then Christmas Takes Over

Christmas pottery is its own category around here.

Trees are always popular, of course, but there are so many other pieces that can become part of your holiday decorations year after year.

This year we found some really fun additions, including light-up pieces, ornaments, holiday animals, mugs and some larger statement pieces.

I also love pieces that can become part of someone’s traditions. You paint it once, but then it comes back out every December. Ten years later, you still remember making it.

That is probably my favorite part.

There Are More New Pieces Coming

And we aren’t quite done yet.

We saw several new pieces that haven’t made it into the studio yet, and some of them are very different from things we’ve carried before.

A few of the new pieces we’re still waiting to receive include a penguin light-up, the Christmas dachshund carrying the tree, the stacked presents, and the gingerbread pieces.

So if you stop in now and then come back a few weeks later, there may be something completely new waiting on the shelf.

Come In When You’re Ready

You don’t need a class to paint pottery at Just Claying Around. Pick a piece from the shelves, choose your colors and make it your own.

And if you’re hoping to have something finished in time for Halloween or Christmas, earlier is definitely easier. It gives you more choices and, more importantly, lets the project actually be fun instead of turning into a last-minute holiday mission.

We have plenty out now, more coming, and we can’t wait to see what everyone makes this year.
