Learn how to create a stunning wheel-thrown serving bowl featuring an integrated center dip section, perfect for chips and salsa, veggies and hummus, fruit and dip, and more.
In this workshop, we'll demonstrate how to throw a split rim to create a functional serving piece that looks impressive but is achievable with the right techniques.
This project is a fantastic introduction to multi-part functional pottery and teaches skills that can be applied to many future projects.
Prerequisite: This is not a learn-to-throw class. Participants should be comfortable centering clay and throwing basic bowl forms independently. This workshop is designed for students who have completed our 6-week Beginner Wheel Class or have equivalent wheel-throwing experience. We will be using intermediate and advanced techniques to create a functional chip and dip bowl.
Finished pieces will be bisque fired approximately 2–3 weeks after the second class. Glazing is not included in this workshop. Participants may return during any open studio session to glaze their berry bowl by paying the applicable studio fee.
BYOB: Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while you create. Adult beverages are welcome for guests 21+ with a valid ID.
